Rural Hampshire

We successfully tendered for this 9 month project to extend and enhance what was already an elegant country house, set in idyllic landscaped grounds in rural Hampshire.

The Brief; the main works consisted of extending one end of the existing two storey building, stripping and completely rebuilding the roof to create all new second floor accommodation. The work included complex internal alterations to the existing staircase and landing areas to provide access to the new second floor. We replicated the features of the staircase to provide a seamless flow between the existing floors and new floor. This also included a bespoke outside balcony to the first floor.

The extensive internal finishes and fittings were supplied to a very high standard, including the construction of a spiral wine cellar accessed from the new dining room.

Extensive works were also undertaken to build a new outside kitchen featuring a bespoke paddle stone arch plus changing room facilities together with a bespoke gazebo to house the hot tub, all created around the existing swimming pool.

Central Winchester

This large Winchester property had a sizeable cellar below ground level but with limited headroom.

The Brief: the client wanted to create an ethereal subterranean exercise and relaxation zone consisting of a swimming pool, gym, separate sauna & steam room plus a shower room.

Through careful planning and design it was possible to cut into the banked ground externally to reveal the outside wall of the original cellar. The external walls were then removed and the floor levels lowered to below the existing foundation levels. The internal floor area was increased by further excavation below the ground floor living space and extending outside to create a continuous glass wall with walkway over. The immediate outside space then provided a substantial terrace with a decorative retaining wall.

The use of clever lighting and internal design features completed the clients' magical subterranean brief.

Built in 1970 and designed by renowned local architect, Charles Burford, it featured cutting-edge contemporary design. After nearly 50 years, it was our brief to update the property whilst maintaining the essence and integrity of the original design.
